What is a STIC?

A STIC is a Student Initated Course, with a curriculum developed and taught by students, under the guidance of a faculty advisor. STICs are 1-2 credit courses listed under a relevant, STIC-approved department.

Why should I take a STIC?

Explore a new field. Spend a semester diving into a new field in your major or even peek at a new one! STICs are a great opportunity to get an introduction to many different topics.

Add new projects to your portfolio. Many STICs have students work on projects throughout the semester to gain a better understanding of relevant topics. You can add these to your portfolio or resume!

Learn from like-minded peers. Meet students from other majors who have different academic backgrounds than yourself! Work alongside them and share the different perspectives you've adopted through your unique experiences and past courses.

What are some examples of STICs?

UI/UX Design (IDEA258U)

Git, Github and Project Management (CMSC389T)

Political Comedy: How Laughter Shapes Political Discourse (GVPT289U)
